In fact, according to President Martin Jischke, for Purdue to become preeminent under the new strategic plan, which lays out the mission and vision for the University for the next five years, an additional $156 million will be needed in the operating budget. According to the plan, this money would come from five different sources $20 million in private gifts and endowments, $55 million in sponsored programs for research, $38 million from student fees from the $1,000 tuition increase for all first-time students, $15 million from internal adjustments, and $28 million from the state.
