Purdue may add biomedical program

As one of the leading engineering schools in the country, Purdue is "expected" to produce graduates in most areas of engineering, and according to the dean of the Schools of Engineering, the University graduates students in almost every discipline.

However, as technology has progressed, new fields have emerged that Purdue isn't fully addressing. So, to expand its educational capabilities and better fulfill the goals of the strategic plan, the University is working to add a new interdisciplinary undergraduate program in biomedical engineering.

Case manager helps out Lafayette's homeless

As the weather gets colder, it keeps getting harder and harder for outreach case manager Catherine Lisinicchia to disconnect from her job at the Seeds of Hope day shelter to her time spent at home.

Sometimes Lisinicchia can't enjoy her dinner because she wonders why it is that she can choose to eat whatever she wants while the people at the shelter have to eat whatever is picked out for them.

She thinks about how she has her own warm house, yet the homeless people she spends the majority of her days with don’t have that luxury.

Dean to serve as vice provost next semester

The School of Liberal Arts will soon be searching for a new dean because, effective Jan. 1, Margaret Rowe, dean of the school, will become vice provost for academic affairs.

The University announced today that Rowe would become vice provost beginning next semester; she will continue to serve as dean of Liberal Arts until June 30.

"I think it's an excellent appointment," said Joe Bennett, vice president for University Relations.
