Bowl-bound Boilers earn winning season

No one knows which game it'll be, but for the fifth straight season Purdue is going to a bowl game.

With a 24-14 win over Michigan State Saturday in Ross-Ade Stadium, the Boilers clinched a winning season and made themselves eligible to be selected to play in a post-season bowl game.

Which bowl the Boilers go to depends on how Purdue fares in its final two games — at Indiana this Saturday and at home against Notre Dame Dec. 1.

"I think in the Big Ten there are no guarantees out front," coach Joe Tiller said. "In this conference anybody is capable of beating anyone on any Saturday.

Student, ‘brother’ value time together

Paul Hammer and Jonathan Gillen are, as usual, comparing fishing stories. Gillen, "the pro," claims to know more than his "big brother." He is a know-it-all when it comes to the serene sport, but Hammer appreciates that, letting the 13-year-old ramble on about his knowledge of poles, lures, techniques and fish.

Alumnus donates $10 million

When Purdue alumnus Jerry Rawls donated $10 million for the Krannert building expansion, he didn't expect he'd actually have to shovel dirt or work with the construction crews.

Rawls, who received a master's degree from Krannert in 1968, gave Purdue the money to help Krannert excel and to make the University preeminent. He was on campus Friday for the official Rawls Hall groundbreaking celebration, but his morning began at the construction site on State Street.
