Fair weather fans will cheer in futureAfter witnessing our 38-13 loss to Illinois I left a bit angry and disturbed, not so much by the outcome of the game, but more so toward the actions of our fans, specifically, the booing of quarterback Brandon Hance. I became even more disturbed when I read an article on Purdue Online criticizing Tim Stratton and his comments criticizing fans for the same booing of Hance. Here at Purdue, it seems people are quick to point the finger at one player and blame the whole loss on that one player. I dont claim to know everything about the game, but I know enough to say a game isnt won or lost by one player; victory or defeat is accomplished through the collective effort of the team. It wasnt long ago fans were blaming Travis Dorsch for losses, the same way Brandon is being blamed for the loss to Illinois. How stupid do those fans look now, as Travis has emerged as one of the best kicker/punters in the country? And as far as Strattons comments go, criticizing fans for the booing and sticking up for his quarterback and teammate, good for him. Its this kind of unity and commitment to the team that will help Purdue rebound from its defeat to Illinois and win more games in the future. Lastly, Brandon, just remember how short peoples memories are, because the same people that jeered you during the defeat to Illinois will be cheering you in future wins.
