Purdue Police question international
students
From Staff Reports
The week before Thanksgiving break, several Purdue
students were questioned by the Purdue Police Department in an effort
to account for all international students in the United States.
As a part of a coordinated effort between state,
local and national law enforcement officers, a list of 25 names of international
students last known to be members of the University was presented to
Purdue Police more than a week ago.
There was no indication that anyone in this group
was under suspicion for anything, according to Joseph Bennett, vice
president of University Relations.
The police were asked to question the students
as to what they were working on and studying in the U.S., Bennett said.
The police spoke to 13 students; others could not
be reached or were no longer affiliated with Purdue.
"All the interviews were perfectly cordial," Bennett
said. "People were just asked if they could answer some questions and
they did. Everyone cooperated. It's part of a lot of other things going
on as part of the investigations following Sept. 11."
