| Academics take precedence over athletics for lots In response to Mr. Steve Simmerman, Director of Facilities, Intercollegiate Athletics. I acknowledge the fine athletic history of Purdue and concede that such a history indeed lends itself to the prowess of our fine University. However, Mr. Simmerman, you fail to realize that without this fine, the University and the many students that attend, the Intercollegiate Athletics department would have no parking lots to maintain. This is a school first. Academics take precedence over athletics. I have a class from 4:30 until 5:20, which happens to fall on days where there is a basketball game. I do not have a garage permit (thanks to our lovely friends at Parking Services), so what you are basically telling me is that I have to skip out of class get my car no later than 4:59, drive down to the Northwestern parking garage park no earlier than 5:01 (again thanks to our dear friends at Parking Services) and make it back to class in time to learn something. If someone is just on campus farting around that is one thing, but I have class and a friend of mine you and your pals towed had to work at her work study job. Now, Mr. Simmerman, I couldn't care less who really owns those parking lots. The fact of the matter is that this University sold me and many others a parking lot pass, which allows us to park in that parking lot. Maybe you and those happy-go-lucky baby-sitters over at Parking Services should have a little powwow and figure out what is going on here. Evan Bristow |
