PSG looks at options for
Purdue's growth

Purdue Student Government held their second meeting
of the semester last night in the Civil Engineering Building, Room 1144.
Purdue executive vice president and treasurer Ken
Burns opened the meeting by speaking about the University's plan for
growth and about building efficiency.
"When we build a building, we expect it to last
75 to 100 years, which contrasts with a building in the commercial world,
which is only expected to last for 20 years," Burns said. "The reason
for this is as soon as the property depreciates, boom, it's gone."
He also said the University is looking into making
campus more easily accessible from the south.
"We are going to widen Intramural Drive and remove
the parking so that it can become a major thoroughfare throughout the
campus," said Burns.
Another issue that was addressed was the food service
surveys that were recently issued on SSINFO. School of Management senator
Ryan Hatton said it might be a while before the final results from the
surveys are announced.
"We would rather take our time and do it right,
so that we can analyze data and figure out a plan of action based on
what the students want us to do," said Hatton.
Underrepresented Students senator Debanik Barua
said that he was looking into a food service plan with the residence
halls that would ease the transition to America for Asian students.
"There should be a plan in place that provides
Asian food in the residence halls to help the Asian students gradually
get adjusted to American culture," Barua said. "The ideal situation
is that one residence hall would serve one Asian meal per day for the
first few weeks of school. If the program was a popular one, I would
like to see it turned into a long-term thing."
