RALLY THE TROOPS: Softball coach Carol Bruggeman talks to her team at practice at Mollenkopf Athletic Center. Due to the weather, today's game with Eastern Illinois has been moved to Wednesday.

It is hard to tell by the way it looks outside, but it is spring.

With the recent snowfall the Purdue baseball and softball teams have had to postpone their upcoming games because of the inclement weather.

The softball team was scheduled to play a doubleheader today at 2 p.m. against Eastern Illinois in Charleston, Ill. The doubleheader has been rescheduled for Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

Eastern Illinois did not get enough snow to cause any problems.

Head coach Carol Bruggeman said she is happy that the game is still going to be played.

"Anytime you can compete is better than practice," said Bruggeman. "We will take this as we have all season and that is one game at a time.

"Anytime you play an outdoor sport you chose it because you like to be outside."

The Boilermakers are 25-9 on the year and own the longest winning streak in program history at 10 games. Following the doubleheader against the Panthers, Purdue will open the Big Ten schedule on the road at Wisconsin.

This weather is a big change from the weather the Boilermakers have been playing in for most of the season.

"We have been blessed with beautiful weather on all our road trips this year," said Bruggeman. "We are just battling some crazy March weather like the rest of the country."

The baseball team is also having to scramble to change games around because of the snow fall.

Baseball was set for a 3 p.m. start against Butler on Wednesday at Lambert Field but now the Boilers do not know if or when they will face the Bulldogs.

"The chances of playing them here on Wednesday are slim and none," said head coach Doug Schreiber. "We are going to contact them tomorrow and try to change it to their venue."

Schreiber said he was uncertain about whether or not the game would be played at Butler either. Indianapolis got rain instead of snow, so the field conditions may be bad there also.

The Boilers are 6-12 and in the middle of a four-game winning streak.

The Boilers will open their Big Ten season with a four-game series against Penn State this weekend.
