The department of earth and atmospheric sciences will have an exhibition dealing with prehistoric creatures and meteorology. Attendees will have the chance to create fossil artwork, look at fossils found around Indiana and explore weather forecasting. Children can participate in amber polishing to locate insects. The tent will also allow people to have a picture taken against a tornado backdrop. The exhibit is located in the Memorial Mall.

Biology

The department of biological sciences will have a display featuring information about sea creatures and other animals. A tidal pool of live sea urchins, sand dollars and starfish will be at the exhibit, and children are welcome to handle them. The department will have displays on the biological development of chickens and sea urchins. A poster diagramming the eyes of flies will also be featured.

The display is located in the lobby of the Lilly Hall of Life Sciences.

Child Development

The School of Consumer and Family Sciences will feature Prime Time with Infants and Toddlers — presenting simple activities to support a child's development. A geography challenge presented by the department of hospitality and tourism management and a Financial Fitness display on money management will be offered. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday in Memorial Mall.

Undergraduate Research

The School of Science will be hosting displays on research. Undergraduate students will be available to answer questions about the design of the displays. The facilities in the School of Science will be open for attendees to tour. The displays and tour will be on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Lilly Hall of Life Sciences.

A display explaining how food for astronauts is made will be available for viewing. Attendees will also get the chance to sample freeze-dried ice cream. The exhibit will be located outside the Food Sciences building.

Kitchen Gardens

The Associated Landscape Contractors of America will display different ways of making gardens more decorative. It will demonstrate a variety of ways to prune and enhance the aesthetic value of one's garden and will feature Peter Rabbit, who will help children learn about gardening and various treats and cotton candy. The kitchen garden will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday in front of the Entomology Building.

Brick Bowl

Approximately eight teams will use stones and mortar to build a carillon, a structure that supports bells, for the Boiler Brick Bowl competition. Contestants will have four and a half hours to complete their designs. The winners will receive gift certificates to Follett's Bookstore, T-shirts and food. Brick Bowl will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday on the Purdue Mall.

Walk-through Maze

The Agronomy Club hopes to educate participants about grain and hay in the form of a walk-through maze. If the maze participants get lost while walking through, questions posted about different types of grain and hay will help guide them to the end. The club hopes this method of learning will help participants retain information about agronomy better. The maze opens to participants at 9 a.m. Saturday in front of Lilly Hall of Life Sciences.

Boiler Barnyard

The department of animal science will offer working-dog and horse demonstrations, pig ultrasounds, interactive educational computer software, coloring contests and animal trivia games for prizes starting 9 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday in a large tent outside Smith Hall. Participants will learn how to determine the amount of fat in a pig and other farming skills.

Horticulture Show

The Purdue Horticulture Society will hold a plant show and sale beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday in between the Horticulture Building and the Headhouse. The society transformed the area between these two buildings into a garden paradise for the show. The show will feature tips on contemporary gardening in a number of areas ranging from birds and butterflies to backyard entertaining and will also feature a children's booth. All plants at the show may be purchased.

Tractor Show

Each year, collectors are invited to show their antique tractors at Spring Fest. Spectators will have the chance to see a few antique tractors at this year's tractor exhibit, featuring an Allis-Chalmers 1947 and other tractors from local owners. Models of many tractors will also be on display. The show will start at 9 a.m. and run throughout the day on Saturday, on the east side of the Agricultural and Biological Engineering Building.

Forestry and Natural Resources events

The Wildlife Society will display rubber animal tracks, or prints, so that children and guests can get experience with animal identification in the Forestry and Natural Resource tent, located outside of the Food Science Building. All forestry activities will take place on Saturday and are open to anyone who wishes to attend. All activities will start at 9 a.m. The goal of the animal track identification is to help people realize that there are a variety of animals in Indiana.
