Spring Fest features 'Marketing Madness'

By Heather Poston
Staff Writer

Purdue's department of agricultural economics is taking part in Spring Fest 2002 with a wide array of games and activities called "Marketing Madness."

One game the department is putting on is called the Slogan Marketing game. According to Leanne Williams, the coordinator for "Marketing Madness," the Slogan Marketing game will feature 19 different questions pertaining to popular slogans that participants must guess. For example, one would have to know that "Good to the Last Drop" is the slogan for Folger's coffee.

Another game featured in the display is called The Production game. This game is mainly intended for children. It asks the participant to draw a line from the picture to the products produced from the picture. For example, a child would draw a line from a cow to two products produced from a cow, such as milk and cheese.

The Marketing Wheel is a game in which the participant spins the wheel and answers random questions about prices, packaging and placement of products in stores.

The fourth and final game featured in the agricultural economic "Marketing Madness" display is a game called the Import/Export game. The Import/Export game gives examples of products, and the participant must say whether or not the product is an imported or exported product.

Williams said that the 30 undergraduate students involved in this display have been helpful and essential to the project.

"I really rely on the students for the success of this event," said Williams. "They have been great."

Eric Scholer, a senior in the School of Agriculture, has been involved with "Marketing Madness" since his freshman year.

"It's fun to teach people something and to come up with fun and interesting ways in doing so," said Scholer.

The "Marketing Madness" display will take place on Saturday and will be located in front of the Food Science building.
