Forty-seven beaming and proud professors walked across the stage of Purdue Memorial Union's North Ballroom as they were inducted into the Purdue University Book of Great Teachers.

Forty-nine professors were inducted in all; two were unable to attend the ceremony. The Book of Great Teachers honors faculty who have devoted their lives to teaching at Purdue. In order to be eligible, honorees must have served on the Purdue faculty at least 10 years.

Provost Randy Woodson provided the opening remarks for the ceremony. Purdue Student Government president Eric Barnard, 2006 Indiana Professor of the Year Randy Roberts, and president France C—rdova also spoke during the ceremony.

Woodson said it was a great honor to be on stage with the recipients.

"It's great to see my colleagues receive this award," he said.

Timothy J. Newby, a professor of curriculum and instruction, was one of the teachers who received the award.

"This is a great honor because a number of my colleagues I've looked up to as individuals are in this group, and just to be ranked with them is beyond belief," Newby said.

Ashley Szklarek, a sophomore in the College of Education, attended one of Newby's classes.

"I really enjoyed listening to his lectures because he is really good at what he does. I learned a lot." Szklarek said.

Supriyo Datta, a professor of computer and electrical engineering, also received the award.

"It is very great and nice to be recognized, but I get enough pleasure from just teaching," Datta said.
