Students sometimes are hesitant when choosing electives. The following are two classes Purdue students can consider -

HONR 399: Lies, Damned Lies & Statistics

The title of this class is inspired from Mark Twain’s reference to the persuasive power of numbers and statistics to weaken arguments.

Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA or be in either the University Honors program or the honors program of their respective school or college.

Catharine Patrone, the assistant director of the University Honors program, recruited professor Mark Ward to teach the class.

“He’s one of the most high energy professors I’ve met,” said Patrone. “If you can’t get excited about statistics with Mr. Ward, you’ll never be excited about statistics.”

ANSC 441: Beef Management

Anybody who has been interested in how beef is managed and produced should take this class with professor Ron Lemenager. Lemenager does research in beef cow-calf and beef feedlot nutrition and management.

The course ties nutrition, reproduction, products, management and well being of animals into a system of production. The initiative of the class will be to try to optimize production.

“It’s kind of the art and science of cattle production,” said Lemenager.

The course will have three essay exams. The last exam will be a comprehensive cumulative because the course will build on previous material. Students will also be required to do a few homework assignments and team projects.
