Along with having top Engineering and Management programs Purdue has been listed among the nation’s best in a variety of campus-life categories.
The Princeton Review has named Purdue among the top 20 colleges in the nation in a number of categories including best athletics, best college newspaper and best campus food. More specifically Purdue ranks 15th for both intercollegiate and intramural sports and19th for on-campus food. The Exponent was ranked 17th in the nation in the category of college newspapers.
“The Exponent is a vibrant student newspaper and it’s pretty good news that out of all the colleges Purdue ranks so high,” said Chris Sigurdson, assistant vice president of external relations.
These ratings were published in Princeton Review’s “The Best 371 Colleges - 2010 Edition.” The ratings are based on surveys of 122,000 students at colleges across the United States during the 2008-09 and/or previous two academic years.
For 2009 Purdue ranked in Princeton Review’s 100 “best value” colleges. This was determined by the education services and test-prep companies who said that the rankings were an attempt to highlight schools that offered high-quality education at a reasonable price.
Cathy Heinz, the associate director of admissions, said although these rankings may help students choose Purdue over institutions, it’s not the only factor looked at.
“The most influential aspect overall is academic reputation,” Heinz said. “And the reputation aspect of it is going to be dependent on the eyes of the beholder.”
Heinz said that Princeton Review is among the top five Web sites at which students considering Purdue do their research.
