A goal was scored with twenty-one seconds left in the second overtime to end the match between in-state rivals Indiana and Purdue on Tuesday night in Bloomington, Ind.

Senior defender Sylvia Forbes of the Boilermakers scored off of a header in the 110th minute to make the score 2-1 from junior defender Jessica Stellhorn’s free kick. It was Stellhorn’s second assist of the game and Forbes said that she lost her voice in the ensuing celebration.

“We’ve had a lot of overtime games where we weren’t able to score,” Forbes said. “But you can’t really describe the feeling of scoring in overtime. It’s just mayhem and everyone is going crazy and everyone was so happy.”

It was the Hoosiers that scored first. 25 seconds after the second half started, Chloe McKay netted her second goal of the season.

The Boilermakers (11-5-3, 4-3-2) were able to equalize the score soon after. Three minutes after the Hoosiers (10-6-2, 2-5-2) took the opening lead, freshman Jessica Warren took a pass from Stellhorn and scored in the near side of the net, ultimately forcing overtime.

Senior Jessica Okoroafo made the record books again on Tuesday for the third time in as many games. With the first of her five shots in the game, she broke Purdue’s record for career shots taken. In the two previous matches, she broke career records in goals scored and games played.

“It pays tribute to her consistency and her focus and willingness to accept responsibility,” head coach Robert Klatte said. “She’s certainly been here at a time where there’s certainly been the standard of excellence and the expectation that we’re a program that should be playing in November and the NCAA tournament. Rather than establishing the program like the group did 10, 12 years ago, she’s been carrying the burden, carrying the torch of carrying the responsibility of competing in a top-25 program.”

The Boilermakers have never lost the Golden Boot trophy since its inaugural year in 2002. Purdue now is 10-1-3 against the Hoosiers and have not lost to them since the teams’ first meeting in 1999.

The Boilers will next play Iowa at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Varsity Soccer Complex.
