Officers from the Purdue Police Department are seeking information regarding a small noose-like object found in a campus library Sunday.

An employee of the Humanities, Social Science and Education Library told police she found the object in an isolated study area around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. According to a police report, the object appeared to be a string from a sweatshirt hood and was about 18 inches long. It was tied in a seven-loop slipknot and resembled a noose.

Lt. Fred Davis of the Purdue Police Department said the noose was small and was left in a fairly isolated area.

"Given the circumstances and the currently available evidence, it is not possible to interpret the intent of the individual who left this object in the library," Davis said in a press release.

Anyone with information can contact the department at 494-8221 or the anonymous crime tip line at 496-3784.
