Students were the most credited for the success of the France A. Córdova Recreational Sports center during Friday's grand opening ceremony.
Melissa Exum, Vice president for student affairs, said the center was "for the students, about the students and by the students." She said students were given a once in a lifetime opportunity with this project. They were able to work side by side with University officials by giving input on what they wanted in the center.
Keith Krach, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, said this effort shows how important student opinions were and always will be to the University. The plaque that will be hung in the center will display the message of the collaboration efforts the students had with the University officials.
"The renovation of this facility represents a true collaboration among Purdue University, the division of recreational sports, Purdue students and the state of Indiana can see," Krach read off the plaque. "Led by students, this world class facility is an interval piece of the University's Student Success Corridor and president Córdova's commitment to student leadership and well being."
