West Lafayette police closed off Grant Street at Sylvia Street due to a possible bomb on the ground at the intersection. It turned out not to be a bomb.
1:29 According to Lt. Troy Harris of the West Lafayette Police Department "The device was used for holding flyers and has been in the area for quite some time." The object was being used as a container for papers regarding leasing papers. Grant Street is now clear to all traffic.
At 1:10 p.m., the bomb squad yelled "fire in the hole!" and blew up the possible bomb. No report on whether the device was an explosive.
A person reported seeing a PVC pipe with both ends capped on the ground at around 12:10 p.m.
The bomb squad has arrived at the scene and is using a device to take care of the possible bomb.
West Lafayette police would not comment any further when reached by phone.
