Reports indicate Gov. Mitch Daniels will be the next Purdue president

WLFI-18 is reporting Gov. Mitch Daniels will be the next Purdue president.

WLFI stated "Several sources close to the proceedings tells WISH-TV that the nominee is Daniels." The Indianapolis Star and a New York Times blogger among other media members that are reporting the same.

The presidential announcement is scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday in Loeb Playhouse. A video feed will be provided to an overflow crowd in Fowler Hall. The announcement and subsequent press conference is scheduled through noon.

Former president Steven Beering will be unable to attend the event and does not know who the candidate is, although he said he has also heard of Daniels as a possible candidate.

"Mitch Daniels has been mentioned a number of times," Beering said. "I'll be surprised along with you when we find out Thursday."

The Governor's Office would not comment, stating it's "a University matter."
