Lead Story

For this year's Fourth of July celebration, a concert located on Purdue's Slayter Hill will bring community members together

For the director of the Black Voices of Inspiration, singing a solo in front of a crowd of thousands is no big deal.

She did it last year, too.

"Oh, there are always nerves," said Twana Harris, also an artist-in-residence for the Black Cultural Center. "Always nerves. But (I'm) more excited than anything."

Harris will sing a solo of "God Bless America" at Friday's annual Stars and Stripes concert at Slayter Center of Performing Arts. She said she enjoys the chance to do something different than the "usual picnics, barbecues, the whole bit" that she normally does for July 4.
