Wednesday’s Exponent ran a letter praising Congressman Steve Buyer and thanking him for being “a Congressman that will not only represent his constituents, but one who will do what is right for them.” I respectfully dissent. Does the Congressman represent the students of Purdue when he votes against the National Volunteer Program Expansion (HR 1388)? Does he represent the struggling citizens of West Lafayette when he fails to even show up to extend unemployment benefits (HR 5749)? Does he represent us when he votes against equal pay for women in the workplace (HR 2831)? Does Congressman Buyer really “do what’s right” when he votes against the expansions of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (HR 2831)!? Does Steve Buyer really represent us when he votes against Mortgage Restructuring In Bankruptcy bill, aimed at keeping Indiana families in their home in these struggling times (HR 1106)?

Steve Buyer has never adequately represented the people of the Fourth District or the students at Purdue, regardless of how well he can hold a town hall.
