The all-men's grade point average continues to hover over the all-fraternity average.
The results of the 2008 Interfraternity Council GPA index reported the all-fraternity GPA as 2.767, below the all-men's average of 2.786. The all-fraternity average is made of interfraternity and multicultural fraternities and is the average of 40 fraternities.
Kyle Pendleton, assistant dean of students, said the all-fraternity GPA has remained nearly constant since he began working at Purdue.
"They are always just right at or below the all-men's average," he said.
Tau Kappa Epsilon was not able to contribute their average GPA to the overall fraternity average due to a suspension. Pendleton said their average GPA wouldn't have affected the all-fraternity average.
Though the all-fraternity average remains slightly below the all-fen's average, it has increased since 2006.
"It has risen from 2.717 to 2.785 from Spring 2006 to Spring 2008," said Sam Utley, Interfraternity Council president, of the IFC GPA, which does not include multicultural fraternities. "Just from last fall until this past spring, the average GPA has risen from 2.733 to 2.785."
Pendleton and Utley attributed this increase to the academic resources made available to chapters in the IFC.
"The creation of an academic guide that has been distributed to all chapters," Utley said, is one of the many resources the IFC now offers to members of fraternities.
Pendleton said the IFC has academics at the top of its priorities and it constantly works on keeping grades at a high. And with the increased availability in academic resources, Utley hopes to have a considerable increase in average GPAs in the future.
"We have high hopes to have surpassed that average this fall, with the all-campus GPA as a benchmark," Utley said.
