Printer-friendly version Cheese Weasels stress simplicity, truthBy Brian ColomboStaff Writer Most people think that being in a band qualifies as a full-time job. But four local musicians are proving that they can handle their band duties on the side while keeping a regular nine-to-five job. The members of The Cheese Weasels are all Lafayette residents who have adopted clever monikers to separate their dual lifestyle. Consisting of members Neckmeat Jensen (guitar/vocals), Alphonse Delfecchio (bass), Rastus Q. Assjack (drums) and Chiseltips Hoofalsky (saxophone/keyboards), The Cheese Weasels have played at various venues in Lafayette, including Sgt. Prestons, The Clubhouse and the Knickerbocker Saloon. The Cheese Weasels are bringing their "classic rock" sound to the stage this weekend. Taking the stage at 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Knickerbocker Saloon, 113 N. 5th St., The Cheese Weasels play a mix of 60s and 70s cover songs, as well as classic blues, country and R &B tunes. The bands songlist reads like a whos who of classic rock bands. CCR, Sam and Dave, Elvis and Buddy Holly are just a few of the bands influences. "Weve all got our roots in old rock n roll and blues," Delfeccio said. The band also claims to hail from Fond du Lac, Wisc. Though they use alter-egos and lie about their town of origin, The Cheese Weasels are all about reality. "Were not trying to be something were not," Delfeccio said, and added that the bands main motto is "three chords and the truth." Nick Vukas, owner of the Knickerbocker Saloon, said The Cheese Weasels are a fun band and really put on a good show and that they "try to accommodate everyones taste." He said Hoofalskys got a great sense of humor and he adds a dimension to the bands sound with his sax playing. The band first played the Knickerbocker last summer and has since played there three more times, with a few gigs in the works for this summer. Printer-friendly version |
