People should be happy, proud of their appearance

Josh Brown failed to realize the effect his comments about women could have on a college girl suffering from anorexia, which, according to a bill passed by Congress, has the highest mortality rate of all psychiatric illnesses. It is a seriously misunderstood illness with severe consequences.

According to the National Association of Eating Disorders, the amount of people living with eating disorders is triple the amount living with AIDS. They also say that 4 out of 5 women are dissatisfied with the way they look. It is one thing to encourage women to exercise for health reasons, but to tell someone to exercise because of the way they look is unhealthy, degrading and can have deadly consequences.

There are women suffering from these disorders everywhere. You may not even know it. Sometimes you can’t tell.

Also, I believe it was wrong for The Exponent to print a letter that attacked a specific group of people. Everyone should be healthy and take care of themselves, not just women. It should not be done because somebody says that you are fat.

If you are healthy and like the way you look, be proud and wear what you want. Don’t let the naïve comments of Josh Brown bother you. Nobody deserves to feel bad about they way that they look.

To both men and women: Be proud of your body and what it does for you. It is yours and nobody else’s. Hmm … no wonder Josh Brown can’t find a quality woman.
