Printer-friendly version Men shouldnt view women as mere sceneryIve just broken my rigorous exercise regiment to jot down this reply to Josh Brown. I dont have much time to comment, seeing as how I have a 10-mile sprint planned as soon as I finish this can of Slimfast.I was reading and realized hes right. There are too many fat girls. As a matter of fact, there are too many girls altogether. Who do we think we are anyhow? We belong in the kitchen, not class. We should be barefoot and pregnant, not on the Deans List. But I suppose that a select few do belong here. After all, you boys need entertainment. Thats our purpose, isnt it? Women go to college so the guys have something to stare at as they head to engineering classes while we women waltz off to nursing and primary education lectures. Welcome back to the real world, darling. It would be one thing if youre suggesting Purdue women lose weight for health reasons or self-confidence. But your suggestion is self-serving and shallow. Something I could possibly stomach if not for a friend in the hospital with an IV strapped to her arm because she let standards like yours affect her judgment and believes losing weight will make her happy, despite obvious risks. My purpose here is to get a degree, not be a piece of scenery for young gentlemen like you. Dont kid yourself, this isnt the 1950s. Women do not live for mens approval anymore. You may find your ignorance to be amusing and entertaining, but its neither. So I am going to brush off your comments and assume these last weeks have been pretty dull (must not be getting any from the skinny or the fat girls). So have a healthy summer and I hope you dont sprain your wrist. Margaret Parker Freshman, Schools of Engineering Printer-friendly version |
