Printer-friendly version Task force creates committees for redevelopment of parkwayBy Amanda AnthonySummer Editor The Sagamore Parkway Task Force has taken another step to develop the parkway into an economically successfully thoroughfare the establishment of the committees. Though the committees were discussed at the last meeting, this meeting chairman Joe Hornett, senior vice president and treasurer of the Purdue Research Foundation, assigned chairs and members. City councilor Gerry Keen, R-5th district, will chair the finance committee and Joe Boorman, from Westminster Village, will chair the pedestrian interest committee. Dick Boehning, a lawyer with Bennett, Boehning and Clary, will chair the transportation committee and Steve Shook of the Shook Agency is the chairman of the retail services committee. Lisa Kochert of the Lafayette-West Lafayette Chamber of Commerce will chair the public spaces committee. The other members of the task force joined these committees and Hornett gave them the ability to appoint other members as they see fit. In addition to their committee responsibilities, committee members will be assembling questions for a community survey. This will gauge what citizens want to see on the parkway and what they think would make it better. Purdue's statistics department will assist with the survey. Hornett also said that funds are available for an urban design study, which has not been done for a long time and may yield valuable information. CityBus has said it will be doing a transportation study on the parkway, which the task force indicated interest in. Mayoral candidate Nola Gentry brought an analysis of and proposal for the parkway to the meeting, but she was not allowed to speak about it. Hornett said he did not want the task force to become politicized and said that if Gentry were to present her plan, mayoral candidate Jan Mills would need equal time. The task force will meet biweekly starting with its next meeting at 8 a.m., on July 9 at the Purdue Technology Center in the Purdue Research Park. Printer-friendly version |
