‘Dead week’ fails to live up to name

By Liz Bower
Assistant Campus Editor

The senior in the School of Consumer and Family Sciences has slept for 10 hours in the past 48.

Ashley Zucco’s "dead week" has been anything but dead.

This week she had two papers due that totaled 40 pages and had two presentations in Stewart Center that kept her up on her feet in a suit and heels all day long.

"I thought this week was supposed to let us get ready for finals; however, now I am more burned out then before," Zucco said.

According to University Regulations "no examination or quiz ma be given during the week preceding the final examination period of the semester (examinations for laboratory, intensive or mini-courses excluded)."

The University refers to this week as the 15th week of the semester, not dead week.

Bridget Golden, assistant dean of students, said, "It is a week to encourage students to prepare for final examinations and projects. I am not sure where the term ‘dead week’ originated, but it certainly doesn’t seem dull to me this week."

If students have concerns that exams, tests and quizzes are being given, they can contact their instructor or department head. Also, the Office of the Dean of Students is always open to discuss concerns or questions regarding the policy.

Not all students have had crazy weeks, however.

Paul Rosen, senior in the School of Science, said that he has been able to go out a lot.

"I still have some stuff to do but no homework, just a project this week. My dead week has been pretty dead."
