Students need to stop having promiscuous sex

All you need is love.

Another weekend passes, and these lyrics encapsulate everyone — from the frat guys waiting for their princesses to arrive for the night to the skanks who are willing to have sex for respect and recognition.

That’s right; I am talking about promiscuous relations on campus.

I just got off the phone with my mom. She begged me not to write about this because of the touchy topic. Apparently, having sex and adding the words Christian-Republican hypocrites in the same sentence is a no-no.

What I really enjoy, though, is sitting down to dinner with some of my friend’s buddies and just hearing what they have to say. When the word "sex" is spoken, all of their eyes light up. It is as if someone just threw down one of those giant Hershey bars on the table.

But it’s not; sex is something that is constantly misused in the media, spoken by friends and shared by irresponsible lovers.

Yet those same people at the table rise against the thought of gay marriage. I ask why? If they don’t think pre-marital sex is a sin, then why do they have anything against the thought of two same-sex people growing together in a strong bond? At least they have something to show for their love.

You’re Republican? Christian? And you support Bush’s moral concerns, yet are willing to have a one-night stand every weekend. I don’t understand how this works.

God will not forgive you if you pray to be forgiven about the same thing every Sunday morning, afternoon or night, depending on when your one-night-stand is over.

Women, here are some facts you need to be aware of before you party:

Some people might illegally carry on them date-rape drugs, such as Ketamine, which makes it easier to take advantage of young girls. The drug usually has a powdery form and is easily slipped into drinks at parties. So don’t take a drink handed to you by a guy you hardly know.

For some men, frat houses and apartment parties are places to have sex with vulnerable girls who party and get drunk there. Not all guys are like that, but just in case, have some pepper spray on hand. And if you consciously decide to go to bed with one that night, the only warmth you will be receiving will be from a horny, slobbering frat guy whose sad goal may be to get on as many women as possible.

At the end of each semester, I am betting some of the brothers gather and add their tally lists to see who has slept with the most sluts that year. Where’s the respect and recognition in that?

No respect, and if you consider being a number on a list as recognizing who you really are, then I guess you fit in with the other thousands of people on this campus who feel the same way.

Dogs will be dogs, squirrels will be squirrels, but Purdue students being sex-craving animals is something we shouldn’t aspire to. If we want to be smarter than animals, then why don’t we act like it?

That doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. For Christ’s sake, if you want to rub up, down and against each other at a party, be my guest. Just don’t make the mistake in defining that behavior as intimate.

Meeting someone at a party for the sole reason of making whoopee later on that night is wrong. Even if it’s not your main reason and you think the prospective relationship could somehow benefit from having sex, then you’re mistaken. Irrational behavior leads to an irrational relationship followed by disrespect for each other.

Being sexually intimate too early will just cause an imbalance and destroy any love you had for each other in the first place. First-time sex is for the weak. It is the self-centered person’s way for seeking self-satisfaction.

Ah, you think it’s a goal of yours to have fun right now and later on in college finally settle down into a non pre-marital sexual relationship.

Let me tell you, when you walk up to a person you may have feelings for, make your history clear to that person. Be responsible and be honest; some people could care less, others might blow a fuse. But at least that is a step in taking responsibility.

One of my friends just broke up with this girl after finding out she’s had 15 partners in the past. That was after a month of seriously dating. It’s sad to see that happen. Worse for the guy or girl who has been dumped on reasons such as that. Those are the consequences that have to be dealt with though.

Sex can ruin your life. It’s an addiction for the weak.

People say doing drugs will give you a one-way ticket into the cuckoo’s nest.

Well, so will sex.

It’s a powerful feeling and action and should be shared only by grown-ups who can handle such responsibility.
