A Lafayette newlywed couple got into an accident while climbing a volcano in St. Kitts, a Caribbean island.

The couple — Clay Chastain and his wife Acaimie Chastain — spent their honeymoon in the Caribbean after they got married on July 13.

While on the hike of the dormant volcano, Clay Chastain fell down the side of the volcano, according to Sabrina Catron, the organizer of the GoFundMe for the family.

Clay Chastain fell and cracked his vertebrae. After being taken to a hospital in St. Kitts, the family discovered that due to the concussion and air in his brain, he could not take a commercial flight home.

Instead, he would need an air ambulance to get back to the states, Catron said.

A “GoFundMe” was made for the cost of an air ambulance to take Clay Chastain back to Florida and from Florida to Indiana. Their goal of $35,000 has been met.

According to the GoFundMe, Clay Chastain is expected to land in Fort Lauderdale by 5 p.m.
