The Columbian Park master plan continues to fall into place as the construction on the new Loeb Stadium has officially broken ground.
Aviators fans can look forward to the new $19.8 million facility to be completed in time for the 2021 season, according to the Lafayette baseball website. The stadium will be in the same location as the current one, but will be flipped with the outfield facing toward the center of the park rather than the road.
The stadium will now be able to hold roughly 2,500 fans at each baseball game, according to the Aviators website.
In addition to the new stadium, a synthetic playing field, party areas, suites, modern concession stands and restrooms will be included in the project. The current stadium will be torn down at the conclusion of the 2019 stadium and the Aviators will play the 2020 season at Purdue University’s Alexander Field.
