A handful of people gathered for a candlelight vigil Friday night at the Tippecanoe County Courthouse. Votives spelled out the abbreviation "BLM" in front of the courthouse stairs, while passing by cars honked in apparent appreciation of the cause.

Jerel Carter, the main organizer of the event, released colored balloons into the sky before giving a brief speech to the crowd.

About two hours after the vigil began, a larger group joined the event, as a group of students, faculty and alumni were marching from campus to the courthouse at the same time.
