The Purdue men's tennis team dropped to 2-8 in conference play Friday with its 4-3 loss to No. 49 Penn State. Halfway through singles, the Boilermakers led 3-1 outside at the Schwartz Tennis Center, but the Boilers were unable to clinch the match against the Nittany Lions. The one-point loss is Purdue's fifth of the season.
Athell Bennett and Gergely Madarasz won the No. 1 doubles match, 6-4, while Stephan Koenigsfest and Maksymilian Raupuk won the No. 3 doubles match, 7-6. The Boilermakers scored a point for the doubles matches and gained two more points for the singles match wins by freshman Renan Hanayama and sophomore Athell Bennett. Penn State took the points for the four remaining singles matches, which secured them Nittany Lions the overall win.
