WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The No. 29 Purdue women’s golf team fired a 295 in the second round of the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Championships in Franklin, Tenn., on Wednesday and is in ninth place with a total of 588 with two rounds to play. In the second round, the Boilermakers were led by redshirt junior Kishi Sinha who carded an even-par 72, for a total score of 148 to tie for 42nd.
No. 2 Alabama continues to hold first place. The Crimson Tide recorded a three-under par 285 in the second round and with a team total of 571 (-5) has an 11-stroke lead over top-ranked UCLA, North Carolina and Virginia who are tied for second place at six-over par 582.
Alabama’s Brooke Pancake is the individual leader with a six-under par 138. She shot a 70 in the second round after a 68 on Tuesday.
Junior Laura Gonzalez-Escallon shot a four-over par 76 in round two and trails the leader by six shots. The La Hulpe, Belgium, native opened with a five-under par 67 and is still one-under par for the tournament with a 144, tied for ninth place.
Paula Reto is tied for 25th at two-over par after recording 73s in both rounds. The Cape Town, South Africa, native recorded a team-best four birdies on Wednesday but also had five bogeys to go one-over for the day.
Freshman Aurora Kan carded a 74 and is tied for 73rd with a two round total of 151, while classmate Victoria Scherer turned in a 76 and with a 155 is tied for 100th.
The 2012 NCAA Championships are being held at the Vanderbilt Legends Golf Club in Franklin, Tenn. The Boilermakers will tee off from hole No. 10 on Thursday beginning at 1:58 p.m. ET and will be paired with Southern California and LSU. A live video webcast is available on Thursday and Friday on NCAA.com. Holes No. 9 and 18 will be streamed live the final two days of the championships in addition to a 30 minute recap that will be provided once play has concluded at the end of each day of competition.
