Purdue's Matthew McClintock was honored this week by the Big Ten after his second place finish at the Indiana Intercollegiates in Bloomington, Ind.
McClintock, a sophomore, finished second in the 8K race at the Indiana Intercollegiates on Friday. His time was 25:04.88, a one-mile pace of 5:02.73
McClintock was the top finisher among all Big Ten competitors in Bloomington on Friday, finishing more than five seconds ahead of the next fastest competitor. Using a strategy that he and distance coach Dave Hartman devised, McClintock increased his pace over the last 3,000 meters and improved from 20th place to second place by the end of the race.
This was McClintlock's third-career Big Ten weekly honor, and he was the
last Purdue Athlete of the Week named by the Big Ten.
