Three players scored in double figures to lift Purdue to a 65-63 win at Michigan in Thursday’s Big Ten opener for both teams.

Purdue (10-2, 1-0) was led by Ashley Morrissette and Bridget Perry who had 15 points each. Andreona Keys had 14. Leading scorer April Wilson was held to 3 of 13 from the field and scored nine points, but had 11 assists in the win.

The Boilermaker win avenged a 31-point loss at Michigan last season, 81-50. Furthermore, it helps erase the memories of a last place Big Ten finish in 2015.

Purdue was 25 of 61 from the field (41.0 percent) and 8 of 18 from 3-point range (44.4 percent). It was 7 of 11 from the line for 63.6 percent.

Michigan (8-4, 0-1) was led by Katelynn Flaherty with 19 points on 6 of 19 from the field – including 3 of 9 from long range – to go with four free throws. Hallie Thorne and Madison Ristovski also scored in double figures for Michigan with 14 and 11 respectively. Ristovski had all her 11 points in the first half.

For the game, the Wolverines who entered the game shooting better than 50 percent from the field, were 22 of 58 for 37.9 percent. They were 7 of 18 from 3-point range and only 12 of 21 from the free throw line, good for 57.1 percent.

Purdue will return to action at 2 p.m., Jan. 3 when it hosts Illinois.
