Former Purdue Women’s Basketball standout Drey Mingo has signed a professional contract to extend her playing career with Point Chaud Sprimont of the Division 1 Belgium league. She has already joined her new team in Europe with their season set to begin at the end of the month.
“We couldn’t be more proud of Drey and we’re thrilled to see her pursue this opportunity,” said Boilermaker head coach Sharon Versyp. “To look back at how much she’s overcome and now seeing her prepare to play professionally truly speaks to her incredible character and determination. She’s going to do great things.”
The 6-2 forward averaged 12.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in her final season with the Boilermakers, after overcoming an incredible battle with bacterial meningitis in 2010 and a torn ACL in 2011. She was an AP honorable mention All-American, the Most Outstanding Player in the 2013 Big Ten Tournament and an All-Big Ten honoree.
Mingo is one of two high-school standouts from Georgia to sign with Point Chaud Sprimont this season, joining Belgian native Lara Gaspar, who played high school basketball at South Forsyth High School in Cumming, Ga., before competing collegiately at Rhode Island.
