Redshirt freshman quarterback Jack Plummer has been confirmed out for the season.
Plummer suffered a broken ankle and head coach Jeff Brohm said "(Plummer) will probably be out for the year," in a Monday press conference.
Plummer's injury has lifted sophomore walk-on quarterback Aidan O'Connell to the starting spot.
Plummer had posted 1603 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions in his debut season. Fans remain optimistic, however, because in O'Connell's first big moment where he had to replace Plummer following the injury, he put together a game-winning drive.
The drive included O'Connell completing 6-of-7 passes for 62 yards in the final minutes of the game.
With Purdue under a new quarterback, Saturday's matchup against Northwestern will be telling for the future of the season.
