Chukwuebuka Enekwechi picked up his eighth career indoor Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week honor, the conference announced Wednesday. Enekwechi is among the world’s best throwers this season in the shot put and weight throw.
Enekwechi opened his season with a world-leading mark of 23.79 meters (78-00.75) in the weight throw, a mark that is nearly five feet better than any other thrower in the country this season. The senior had the best day of his career in the indoor shot put, winning the event with a mark of 19.31m (63-4.25). That mark ranks second in program history, second in the country this year and 10th in the world for the season.
Enekwechi is the second Purdue thrower to win a men’s Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week award. Sophomore Luke Lewis was honored after his performance in the shot put in December.
Enekwechi and the Boilermakers are back in action Saturday with the annual Purdue vs. Indiana Dual. The meet is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. ET in Lambert Fieldhouse.
