The Purdue softball team captured a narrow win in its home opener against Iowa Friday afternoon.
The Boilermakers (21-9, 1-0 Big Ten) eked past the Hawkeyes (14-10, 0-1 Big Ten) 3-2, scoring those runs on 10 hits. Senior third baseman Jenny Behan led the team with two hits, two runs and a walk.
Purdue fell into a hole in the first inning after a two-run shot from Iowa first baseman Donirae Mayhew. The Boilers fought to tie the game over the next two innings, with a pair of RBIs from junior catcher Alexa Binckes and senior infielder Lexi Huffman.
The Boilers pulled ahead at the close of the seventh inning with a walk-off double from freshman left fielder Kasey Wilhoit.
Senior pitcher Kaitlynn Moody pitched a complete game against the Hawkeyes, logging a strikeout and a walk in her seven innings.
Purdue will round out its series against Iowa in a double header Saturday at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. in Bittinger Stadium.
